Celebrating India’s Terracotta Traditions: A Memorable Afternoon at TerraFest 2025 By Princess Nandini Singh Jhabua
Whenever I am presented with the chance to promote the genuine arts and crafts of our country, my heart instinctively says yes. India’s craft traditions are not just creative expressions — they are stories of people, practices, heritage, and unbroken legacies. So when the Delhi Blue Pottery Trust invited me to be part of their recently held TerraFest 2025, I knew this was an opportunity I simply could not miss.
Honouring India’s Terracotta Legacy
TerraFest 2025 was a vibrant celebration of India’s rich terracotta heritage — a craft that has shaped cultures, homes, and histories for centuries. The festival brought together over 25 master terracotta artists from different parts of the country, each representing a unique style, region, and story. The atmosphere buzzed with earthy textures, warm colours, and the unmistakable charm of handmade art.
It was inspiring to witness these artisans showcasing the depth of their skill — from functional pottery to intricate sculptures, each creation echoing the spirit of India’s living craft traditions.
A Gathering of Art, Friendship & Support
The afternoon was made even more meaningful with the presence of two dear friends and stalwarts from the art world —
Bhavna Kakar (@bhavz15), a renowned gallerist, the visionary force behind @latitude_28, and Editor-in-Chief of @takeonart magazine, and
Princess Nandini Singh Jhabua (@nandinisinghjhabua), an art patron and collector known for her unwavering support for India’s diverse craft communities.
Their presence as the Guests of Honour added warmth, prestige, and a shared sense of purpose to the event — the purpose of uplifting artisans and honouring the craft traditions that define India’s cultural identity.
A Terracotta Masterclass Like No Other
One of the highlights of TerraFest 2025 was a beautifully curated terracotta masterclass led by @nickyvijsingh. Organized specially for members of the @ciiwndelhi chapter, the workshop offered participants a hands-on introduction to the world of terracotta.
From learning about traditional techniques to shaping clay with their own hands, the masterclass ignited a deeper appreciation for the craft. It was heartening to see everyone not just learning, but truly connecting with the earth and its artistic possibilities.
An Afternoon of Craft, Culture & Connection
The energy of the day was warm, sincere, and deeply rooted in India’s artistic heritage. Surrounded by artisans, creators, and craft-lovers, the afternoon turned into a celebration of community — one built on respect for tradition and passion for the handmade.
As I often believe, every craft holds a story, and every artisan is a storyteller. TerraFest 2025 reminded us of the responsibility we share — to support these storytellers, to celebrate their work, and to help their traditions thrive for generations.
One Craft, One Story, One Tradition at a Time
India’s cultural fabric is woven from countless artistic traditions, each waiting to be recognised and cherished. As we continue to promote and preserve these crafts, we also safeguard the soul of our nation.
Let us come together — One Craft, One Story, One Tradition at a Time — to celebrate India in its most authentic, artistic, and compassionate form.
